Face masks – compulsory for Burke House staff

Sunday 19 July 2020

People in Mitchell Shire and metropolitan Melbourne are now required to wear face masks when leaving home for any of the four permissible reasons to leave home.

And throughout Victoria, the wearing of face masks is now required for all aged care workers.

In light of these developments there will, from Monday 20 July 2020, be a requirement for Vivid staff working at our residential accommodation site, Burke House, to wear a face mask.

This will be for the duration of their shift and they will be provided with a disposable mask to use.

All visitors to Burke House must wear a face mask for the duration of their visit.

This decision has been made in the best interests of the health and safety of staff and residents.

There is no Government direction, as yet, requiring the use of face masks in regional Victoria (with the exception of Mitchell Shire).

There is a recommendation for regional Victorians to use face masks in circumstances where they are not able to maintain the 1.5 meter social distancing.

As noted above, however, Burke House staff will now be required (as from Monday 20 July 2020) to wear face masks for the duration of their shifts.

Extending that direction to other staff, particularly those in Day Services, is under active consideration.

And, of course, the front line defences to transmission of COVID-19 remain physical distancing and frequent handwashing.
